Why this directory exists
I've worked in IT for fifty years, and for about thirty of them my software has run the counters of UK electrical wholesalers: sales orders, stock, pricing, invoicing. That put me alongside electricians every working day, and these days I help home service trades, electricians most of all, get found online.
I built this directory because finding a good electrician in Greater Manchester is harder than it should be. The search results are full of lead-generation sites that pass your job to whoever pays, and the map shows car electricians and wholesalers next to firms that rewire houses. Here, the car electricians, wholesalers and lead-gen lines are taken out, and every listing shows the services the firm states on its own website, and nothing it doesn't.
Listings are free and stay free. Firms can claim theirs to fix details or add photos, and paid positions are always marked. If something is wrong, tell me and I'll put it right.
How listings are vetted
The list started with every business Google Maps files under electrician in the ten boroughs, from Wigan to Tameside and Bolton to Stockport. Anything outside the county's postcodes came out, and so did firms marked closed, firms with no reviews yet, and firms with neither a phone number nor a website.
Then each firm's own website was read. A service is ticked on a listing only when the business says it does that work in its own words, so a blank tick means the firm hasn't said, not that it can't. Car electricians, wholesalers, builders and handymen filed under the wrong category were removed by hand, along with lead-generation lines that pass jobs to other firms.
Right now that is 439 electricians in 53 Greater Manchester towns, last refreshed 2026-11-07.
Owners can claim their listing for free. Every claim is checked by a person: a real local business, a matching email domain or a call to the number on the Google listing. Paid placements are marked as featured, premium or best-of wherever they appear.
